Want to know more about the breed? The external links below will direct you away from our site to more information on whether or not a Pug is for you.
Pugs are known for their playful approach to life, their sense of humor, and entertaining antics. Your new companion will sweetly tilt their head at you, and make direct eye contact as they listen to you.
Pugs were developed specifically to be companion dogs, they form extraordinarily close bonds with their owners and require more time and attention than many more independent breeds. The dog will not thrive and may suffer detrimental physical and mental health effects in situations of too limited contact with its owners. This is not the breed to select for busy professionals wishing to leave or crate a dog all day. Pugs are excellent companions for anyone other than very young children who do not yet understand how to be gentle with puppies. Pugs’ laid backlifestyle make them one of just a few breeds that are excellent matches for elders. My Pugs would be happiest if I would let them sit in my lap and look into my eyes all day. This is not the breed for you if you are looking for a dog to accompany you hiking, running, or biking. As with all brachycephalic dogs (those with flattened snouts like pugs, boxers, bulldogs etc.), Pugs are more sensitive to heat exhaustion than many other breeds. Extra care should be taken in warm weather to not allow your pal to become overheated.
